I commissioned my friend Tammy Derwick, the mermaid expert, to make me an image. My original goal was to make a graphic for the boat “Three Ladies” but as it evolved it became much more than that. What we have ended up with is a beautiful hand drawn portrait of my wife and daughters in mermaid form that we have framed and hung in a place of honor in our home.

I think you will agree Tammy does fine work. You can contact her and see more of her work at bethemyth.com.

Next we will start to work on a nice wrap.

My plan was to take the kids out of school early Friday to go to the coast and dig razor clams. Unfortunately with all the nasty weather we decided to bag it and hope for the next opener. The good news is, since the weather kept a lot of people away we should get some good opens later this winter.

I also got some great snow pictures of the harbor this weekend. These can be seen on the Facebook.

I am looking forward to the Boat Show starting this weekend. especially looking forward to seeing the new Defiance San Juan 25. It’s a beautiful boat. When you go by tell them you saw it on gigharborfishing.com

I will be live tweeting from the show so if your not following on twitter do it before Friday. I don’t follow twitter all the time but it’s good for stuff like this.

Since 1972, the Gig Harbor Fisherman’s Club has been raising and releasing chum salmon at Donkey Creek in Gig Harbor. For the last four years harbor residents have been celebrating this accomplishment with the Donkey Creek Chum Festival.

This years festival on October 16th features Booths, Kayak Races, Chum Burgers, Refreshments, “Paint Your Own Salmon” t-shirts, and the giant FIN salmon among other exciting events. The Puyallup tribe is planning to have a booth and the Harbor History Museum will be open throughout the event with displays and activities based around Gig Harbors rich fishing heritage.

Get details here.

Events begin at 10:00am with lots of great kids events, chum burgers at noon and Kayak Races at 2:30 to 3:00pm. Come out and enjoy the fun!

My friend young Evan caught this HOG last night in front of Gig Harbor trolling a hoochie at about 60 feet. Fish hit right at dusk and put up one heck of a fight, but Evan was up to the task.

Good Job Evan!!

We love to take the boat over to Skansi Park on Tuesdays for the Summer Sounds at Skansi. Every year the highlight is the Beatniks. the Beatniks will be playing this week so the streets will be closed and you will have to get to the dock early to get a space. We like to anchor in the bay and BBQ. Sometimes we like to float around and pirate snacks. Its just a great time for everyone. I Hope to see you there.
